This page explains what cookies and similar technologies the Oya Learning Hub uses — and what it does not use. The short answer: this site uses no advertising or tracking cookies.
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They are commonly used to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, or track your behaviour across websites for advertising purposes.
The Oya Learning Hub is a free, non-commercial educational website. It has no login system, no user accounts, no advertising, and no interest in tracking individual visitors.
The Learning Hub uses the following limited technologies:
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Data collected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Google LLC | Loads Playfair Display and Noto Sans typefaces so pages display consistently on all devices. | Your browser sends a request to Google's servers. Google may log your IP address per its privacy policy. No font usage data is linked to you by Oya. No cookie is set by Oya for this purpose. |
| Wikipedia REST API | Wikimedia Foundation | Loads plant thumbnail photographs from Wikipedia for the species portrait cards in the plant guides. Images are fetched client-side when you open a portrait card. | Your browser makes a direct request to Wikipedia's API. Wikimedia may log standard server request data (including IP address) per its privacy policy. Oya does not receive or store this data. |
| No analytics | — | The Learning Hub does not use Google Analytics, Matomo, or any other visitor analytics platform. | — |
| No advertising | — | The Learning Hub carries no advertising. No advertising networks, tracking pixels, or retargeting technologies are present. | — |
For the two third-party services contacted by this site, you can review their privacy policies directly:
Google Fonts: policies.google.com/privacy
Wikimedia Foundation: foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy
Oya has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, the privacy practices of these third-party services.
Because this site sets no first-party cookies, there is nothing to opt out of on our side. If you wish to prevent your browser from making requests to third-party servers (including Google Fonts or Wikipedia), you can:
Use browser settings to block requests to specific domains, or use a browser extension such as uBlock Origin to control which external resources load.
Use a private/incognito window — this prevents any cookies set during the session from persisting after you close the window.
Note that blocking Google Fonts will cause the site to fall back to your system serif and sans-serif fonts (Georgia and Arial respectively). The content will remain fully accessible.
The Oya Learning Hub is designed to be appropriate for all ages, including children. We do not collect personal data from any visitor, including children. No advertising is shown, and no behavioural tracking takes place. Parents and teachers can be assured that children using the Learning Hub are not subject to tracking or profiling of any kind.
If the Learning Hub adds new features that involve cookies or third-party services, this policy will be updated before those features are deployed. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.
Questions about this policy can be directed to oyatees.org/contact.
