These Terms govern access to and use of the Oya Learning Hub. By using this site you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully — they are written in plain language.
The Oya Learning Hub is a free educational website operated by Oya: Conservation for the Next Generation!, a non-profit organisation. Its purpose is to provide accessible, scientifically accurate educational resources about plant biology and plant conservation for learners of all ages — with particular attention to younger audiences.
Educational and informational purpose only. All content on the Oya Learning Hub — including text, illustrations, plant guides, and interactive features — is provided purely for educational and informational purposes. Nothing on this site constitutes professional scientific, medical, legal, environmental, or financial advice.
Factual information about plant species, conservation status (including IUCN Red List categories), and ecological data is sourced from established scientific authorities and is believed to be accurate at the time of publication. Conservation science is an evolving field: species status and population data change. Users requiring definitive or current data for professional, academic, or policy purposes should verify information directly with primary sources such as the IUCN Red List (iucnredlist.org) and Kew Gardens (kew.org).
The Oya Learning Hub is provided for personal, educational, and non-commercial use. You are welcome to:
Access and read all content on the Learning Hub for personal learning. Share links to Learning Hub pages with others — students, parents, teachers, or colleagues — for educational purposes. Use Learning Hub content in classroom settings, consistent with fair use principles, provided OYA is credited as the source. Download or print individual pages for personal, non-commercial educational use.
You may not reproduce substantial portions of Learning Hub content for commercial purposes, present Learning Hub content as your own without attribution, or use Learning Hub content in ways that misrepresent Oya's mission or positions.
Original written content on the Learning Hub — plant guide narratives, Plant School chapters, educational text — is the copyright of Oya: Conservation for the Next Generation! and may not be reproduced in full without permission.
Oya plant-inspired artwork (including the "Morphology of Flowering Plants" and "The Parts of the Flower" illustrations on the Plant School page) are copyright of OYA and may not be reproduced, distributed, or used without explicit written permission from OYA.
Plant species photographs displayed on the guide pages are sourced from Wikimedia Commons via the Wikipedia REST API. These images are licensed under Creative Commons licences (typically CC BY-SA 4.0 or equivalent) and remain the property of their respective copyright holders. Oya does not claim ownership of these images. The licence terms for individual images are viewable on the corresponding Wikimedia Commons page.
IUCN Red List data and species conservation status information is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (iucnredlist.org) and is used in accordance with IUCN's terms of use for educational, non-commercial purposes.
Oya takes care to verify factual content on the Learning Hub against primary scientific sources. However, we cannot guarantee that all information is complete, current, or error-free. Conservation status, population figures, and scientific understanding of species change over time.
Oya accepts no liability for any decisions, academic work, professional assessments, or other actions taken in reliance on information provided on the Learning Hub. Users who need authoritative or current species data should consult the IUCN Red List, Kew Gardens, national herbaria, or other primary scientific institutions directly.
If you identify a factual error on any Learning Hub page, we welcome corrections via our contact page at oyatees.org/contact. Accurate, verified educational content is central to Oya's mission.
The Oya Learning Hub is designed to be appropriate for all ages. Level 1 content (Plant School) is specifically written for children aged 7 and above. Content in higher levels (plant guides, threatened species portraits) addresses more complex topics appropriate for teenagers and adults, including species threatened with extinction and the role of human activity in habitat destruction. This content is factual and presented without graphic material.
Parents and educators are encouraged to explore the Learning Hub alongside younger children, particularly the more complex conservation content in Levels 3 and 4.
The Learning Hub does not contain advertising, and no commercial messages are directed at children.
The Learning Hub contains links to external websites including the IUCN Red List, Kew Gardens, Plants of the World Online, Wikimedia, and the main OYA website. These links are provided for informational purposes and as sources for further learning. OYA does not control the content of external sites and is not responsible for their accuracy, privacy practices, or terms of service. Visiting an external link is at your own discretion and risk.
Oya may update, expand, or remove content on the Learning Hub at any time and without notice. We may also update these Terms of Use periodically. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the Learning Hub following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
These Terms of Use are governed by and interpreted in accordance with applicable law. Oya operates as a non-profit organisation and these Terms are intended primarily to protect the integrity of the educational content and the rights of users, not to create onerous legal obligations.
If you have questions about these Terms of Use, content accuracy, permission to use OYA materials, or any other matter relating to the Learning Hub, please contact us via oyatees.org/contact.
